Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the United States. In 2008, an estimated 37,680 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and 34,290 will die from the disease. Early diagnosis for this particular type of cancer is extremely difficult, and there is no cure.

When you are touched by pancreatic cancer, your life changes in unimaginable ways. Here are a few resources to help you learn about the disease, available treatments, patient support programs, and how you can contribute to fighting pancreatic cancer.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the only national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through direct funding of research, patient education, community outreach and advocacy for a cure.

We are committed to increasing the private and federal funding of pancreatic cancer research that will create breakthroughs in the understanding, treatment and prevention of pancreatic cancer. Our strategy includes an unprecedented recommendation to Congress for increased appropriations to pancreatic cancer research by the National Cancer Institute. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network fills the void of information and options by giving patients and caregivers reliable, personalized information they need to make informed decisions. We create a sense of hope and community so no one has to face pancreatic cancer alone. We are here to work with individuals and communities across the country to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research
The nation’s largest private supporter of research into the cause and cure of pancreatic cancer, The Lustgarten Foundation is dedicated to advancing the science related to the diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of this disease. In addition to supporting research at leading institutions worldwide, the Foundation hosts scientific symposia to bring together experts in the field of pancreatic cancer, and provides patients and their families with accurate, up-to-date information to help them make informed decisions about their care.

Every year there are fundraising events all over the country to help raise money for much-needed research, but we are still a long way from a cure. Check in your community to see what fundraising events you can participate to help us end pancreatic cancer.
